UN Habitat call for Expression of Interest to support the work of Waste Wise Cities
BVRio is supporting UN Habitat in the call for Expression of Interest to support the work of Waste Wise Cities for the period 2022-2026. The submission period ends 31 August 2021.
UN-Habitat is seeking supporters for the Waste Wise Cities to continue its work for the next five years, 2022-2026. Supporting arrangement would enable the Waste Wise Cities to implement key aspects of its work that could not be covered by project funding only, including advocacy and communications, hosting of global events, monitoring and research activities, the development of guidance materials and tools for sustainable solid waste management, support to member cities and affiliates.
Thierry Sanders, BVRio’s Circular Action Hub Director, commented, “BVRio has been a partner of UN Habitat for a number of years, and we’re happy to support this call to further develop the Waste Wise Cities global initiative and to encourage our network within waste management to engage with it.”
UN-Habitat’s Waste Wise Cities global programme was jointly launched by Ms. Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Executive Director UN-Habitat, and His Excellency, President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya, on World Habitat Day 2018. The programme aims to address the global waste crisis, including plastic pollution, through better waste management and resource efficiency in cities. Since its launch, 200 cities and local governments from around the world have joined by embracing twelve key principles contributing towards many of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
