BVRio appointed member of Rio State Climate Change Forum
BVRio was appointed as a member of the Rio de Janeiro State Forum on Climate Change during a ceremony on September 21st. The event gathered representatives from public authorities and civil society. The Forum is now the state’s primary governing body on global climate change and sustainable development, as mandated by state policy.
BVRio is partnering with the Forum to encourage sustainable production and consumption patterns and promote climate change training. The main focus is conducting a greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory to identify vulnerabilities caused by rising global temperatures. This aligns with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predictions. Members will implement the carbon market in Rio de Janeiro and explore ways to involve young people and other organisations.
“It is an honour for BVRio to be part of the return of the Rio de Janeiro State Climate Change Forum. We are committed to actively contributing to realising sustainable development goals and searching for effective solutions to the climate crisis.” Beto Mesquita, BVRio Director of Forests and Public Policies.
The Climate Change Forum is chaired by the State Secretary for the Environment and Sustainability, Thiago Pampolha, and in addition to BVRio, is made up of representatives from the various state secretariats related to the issue, as well as the Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan), the National Association of Municipal Environmental Bodies (Anamma), the Guandu Committee, the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) and the Brazilian Climate Centre.
“The state’s vision is one of integration. We won’t be able to pursue our goals without the collaboration of the private sector and civil society. Above all, we must prioritise issues such as governance, financing, communication and engagement in our strategy as public policy makers.” said Secretary, Thiago Pampolha.
