BVRio at COP26
The continued unsustainable exploitation of the environment and the world’s resources presents one of humanity’s greatest challenges. Current models of production and consumption by a growing population are incompatible with global natural resource and production limits.
It is clear that new approaches are required in order to protect our planet and halt climate change. There is a need for new thinking to be applied to public policy, legislation, and voluntary corporate initiatives in order to change the current models and help guide countries towards a more sustainable path, and a greener and more inclusive economy.
The aim of the COP26 summit is to bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and BVRio’s work at the intersection of economic, environmental and social sustainability supports wholeheartedly the COP26 themes of mitigation, adaptation, finance and collaboration.
BVRio will participate, or plays a role in the following events during COP26:
2 November – BVRio Director, Pedro Moura Costa, will attend a session on Action on Forests and Land Use in the COP Presidency Pavillion.
2 November – The session will be followed in the evening by a reception where HRH Prince Charles will speak, and will be attended by the RT HON Kwasi Kwarteng MP, Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the RT HON Lord Goldsmith of Richmond Park, Minister for Pacific and the Environment at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. A key focus of this event is to celebrate the commitment of leaders from the financial sector to delivering on the Glasgow Declaration on Forests and Land Use. BVRio Director, Pedro Moura Costa, will attend.
3 November 12:00 – Launch of the Voluntary Carbon Markets Global Dialogues Vision Action Agenda, by Verra, which includes contributions from BVRio Director, Pedro Moura Costa.
3 November 15:00 – High Integrity in the Voluntary Carbon Market Includes the launch of the Voluntary Carbon Markets Integrity Initiative (VCMI) ‘Transforming High Integrity VCMs’. BVRio Director, Pedro Moura Costa, sits on the steering committee of the VCMI and assisted in the development of the Roadmap, and will attend the event. Speakers include speakers include Honorable Minister Samuel Jinapor, Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim, Rachel Kyte, Hugh Sealy and Mark Carney.

8 November – Oxford Climate Policy, European Capacity Building Initiative (ecbi) Fellows Reception
BVRio Director, Pedro Moura Costa, who joined the OCP Board of Directors in 2005, will attend the event.

9 November, 13:20 – 14:40 – Indonesia Pavilion Talkshow (webinar available)
BVRio land-use specialist, Isabela Núñez del Prado with join the panel in the session ‘Technology and Research to Support Sustainable Trade of Forest and Agriculture Commodities’ to discuss BVRio’s experiences through the creation and running of the Responsible Timber Exchange and Due Diligence and Risk Assessment tool for Brazilian timber.

9 November – Side event by Carbon Market Watch & VCM Global Dialogue ‘Can Carbon Markets Benefit Developing Countries?’
With contributions from BVRio, The VCM Global Dialogue has published its Vision & Action Agenda on how the voluntary carbon market can contribute to ambitious climate action, which will be discussed in this side event.
