BVRio appoints new Circular Economy Director and strengthens its team
BVRio has appointed Pedro Succar as its new Director of Circular Economy as part of a wider restructuring of the team to strengthen project delivery, strategic partnerships and the development of market-based solutions for inclusive waste management.
Pedro takes on the leadership role after five years with BVRio, during which he has contributed to the development and implementation of circular economy initiatives, including plastic circularity studies, waste recovery programmes and projects supporting waste picker cooperatives and fishing communities.
Over this period, BVRio’s circular economy portfolio has expanded considerably, combining hands-on support for waste picker cooperatives with innovative financing mechanisms and digital solutions. Its work includes programmes that have supported more than 20 recycling cooperatives, involving an estimated 2,000 waste pickers, while the Kolekt app, developed within the BVRio Group, reached 20,000 registered users worldwide in 2025.
“Over the past five years, we’ve built valuable partnerships and demonstrated how circular economy initiatives can deliver both environmental results and better livelihoods. This new role is an opportunity to build on that progress and take our work further,” said Pedro Succar.
The strengthened team brings together complementary expertise across project implementation, consultancy and partnership development. Circular Economy Specialist Maria Accioly continues to lead consultancies and project management, supported by Junior Analyst Juliana Miranda. Renato Castro Santos contributes to business development and partnership opportunities in Brazil, working with Nastassia Romano, responsible for Strategic Partnerships, focusing on expanding international engagement and mobilising new collaborations and funding opportunities.
Together, the team supports BVRio’s growing portfolio of circular economy initiatives, from community-based waste recovery programmes and corporate consultancy to the Circular Action Hub, the Circular Credits Mechanism and standards supporting transparent, socially inclusive recovery of plastics and other waste materials.
The restructuring also reflects a clearer division of responsibilities across the wider BVRio Group. Thierry Sanders, who previously led circular economy initiatives, now focuses on Kolekt and developing digital waste management solutions, including the Kolekt App, Waste Simulator, Kolekt Certificates, and Waste Footprint Calculator.
The new structure reinforces BVRio’s capacity to connect local implementation with national and international partnerships, helping to scale practical solutions that reduce waste pollution, strengthen recycling value chains and generate social and environmental benefits.
